Milan - Fontana: "The 'Open Space' proposal is positive, a collaboration between public and private is needed" - Lombardy - Varese News

“ To address the issue of prisons, we need to break away from the ordinary patterns and adopt a new way of looking at the problem. And, above all, we need to do so while truly respecting the Constitution. We propose our model, the 'Lombardy model'. We propose bringing together entrepreneurs, universities, professional and trade associations to build an alternative that is truly new, that goes beyond the model used to date”. This was stated by the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana , speaking today in Milan at the presentation of the proposal 'The End of the Infinite System', developed by the Spazio Aperto Association. The project, which is an alternative to the solutions of pardon or sentence reduction put forward so far, is aimed at overcoming the problem of prison overcrowding and recidivism, through a joint public/private action.
The event was attended by the President of the Senate of the Republic, Ignazio La Russa, and the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, together with industry professionals. Also present was the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Lombardy Region with responsibility for International and European Relations, Raffaele Cattaneo.
The Spazio Aperto proposal aims to create new detention facilities with the involvement of virtuous private entrepreneurship, allowing inmates and operators in the sector who report to the Department of Penitentiary Affairs, to be able to operate in environments that comply with the law, and to promote, through job placement paths, the process of reintegration and the real reduction of recidivism, as provided for by the constitutional dictate.
